The Prince George's County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission is seeking an experienced Multimodal Transportation Planning Supervisor to join our planning team and help shape the future of one of the nation's largest, most diverse counties. The Department provides land use planning for the physical development of Prince George's County, Maryland. As the second most populous county in Maryland, Prince George's has a population of approximately 900,000 residents and is home to The University of Maryland at College Park, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and Joint Base Andrews. Prince George's County is also home to many attractions such as Northwest Stadium (formerly FedEx Field), National Harbor, and Six Flags Amusement Park.
We are looking for an experienced manager with outstanding supervisory skills to lead, support, and implement a variety of work programs and projects assigned to the Department. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful supervisory experience, strong management skills, effective stakeholder engagement experience, and the ability to work collaboratively within teams, across agencies, and with elected officials at all levels of government.
As Planning Supervisor, you will oversee, and be responsible for managing the activities of the section’s review of multimodal (transit, pedestrian, bicycle and train networks) transportation planning activities including:
- Proposed development review applications that include:
- Scoping for traffic studies
- Review of Traffic, Bicycle and Pedestrian Impact Studies
- Review of Master Plan conformance
- Review of conformance with Adequate Public Facilities requirements for traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian impacts
- Development recommendations for traffic improvements
- Coordination with staff, applicants and partner agencies
- Presenting and responding to questions at public hearings as needed
- Implementation of the Countywide Master Plan of Transportation (MPOT 2035) and the County’s Transportation Review Guidelines
- Review of proposed legislation (new and amended)
- Review of permits
- Research and support in the development area master plans
- Development and/or review of transportation policies and infrastructure strategies for the County’s road, transit, pedestrian, bicycle and trail networks
- Management of the development and utilization of an advanced transportation demand forecast model
- Advancing progressive land use and transportation policies; and coordinating with county and state agencies
- Coordination with partner agencies, including but not limited to the Prince George’s County Department of Public Works and Transportation, Prince George’s County Department of Permitting, Inspections, and Enforcement, and Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration
You will supervise a team of planners focused on achieving the County’s vision of a multi-modal transportation network that connects residents to jobs and other activity centers and supports the built environment equitably, efficiently, and safely. You will collaborate with county, state and federal officials; community members and neighborhood associations; land developers and their consultant teams. You will manage an efficient, transparent development review process that advances transportation recommendations from County approved master plans and provisions from the County Code. Your team will serve as resource members and participate in the development of policies and strategies for various master and sector plans. You will address the transportation needs that run the spectrum between urban mixed-use development, traditional suburban development, and rural areas.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, have strong analytical and critical thinking skills, possess outstanding communication skills, and be proactive. In addition, they must be independently engaged in the work program and highly dependable.
Working Conditions
Works in an office. Field work will be required for site selection, event planning, and events. Required to attend and/or facilitate public meetings with members of the community and/or events in the evening or on weekends.

The M-NCPPC offers a competitive salary range of $89,092 to $157,697 (salary is commensurate with education and experience) at the Planning Supervisor level with excellent benefits including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, and employee pension plan.
The Prince George’s County Planning Department is conveniently located in Largo, Maryland near Metro and I-495.
