The Prince George’s County Planning Department of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a Division Chief for the Countywide Planning Division. Prince George’s County, Maryland is one of the largest and wealthiest majority minority jurisdictions in the country, located in the metropolitan region of Washington, DC. The region’s many economic, historic and natural assets have attracted new growth and created a booming economy. Already the seat of the nation’s governance, it is also becoming the nation’s capital of information technology and digital communication.

Examples of Important Duties
The ideal candidate will manage a division and/or an interdisciplinary team that performs difficult professional planning work, involving considerable responsibility, complexity and variety. Interpretation of county planning policy to develop and administer plans for transportation, the environment, historic preservation, and public facilities is a major focus of the work program. The work includes oversight for functional plans and regulatory review and will provide directions, organization, and coordination of planning recommendations and decisions for the Planning Board and County Council’s consideration. This individual will also manage budget, set work standards, and review major projects.
1. Master's degree in planning, parks, architecture, engineering, environmental science, or related subjects; and
2. Eight years of a broad range of planning and/or regulatory related experience that included four years of supervisory experience or four years as a planning coordinator; or
3. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Prince George’s County Planning Department is currently located in historic Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Free onsite parking is available for employees. We offer a competitive salary range of up to $146,038 at the Planning Division Chief level with an excellent benefits package including generous leave, extensive health coverage, deferred compensation plan, employer's retirement plan, and work-life programs.
