Call for Nominations

Are you or someone you know looking to make a difference in the planning field and want to get involved in the local planning community and distinguish yourself as a leader? The National Capital Area Chapter of the American Planning Association is now accepting nominations for several positions on its 2025-2026 Board.

The Board promotes urban and regional planning practice and education through a variety of collaborative and inclusive efforts, including local planning conferences, awards, social events such as happy hours, AICP training and certification maintenance, and policy and advocacy work aimed at advancing the visibility and importance of planning throughout the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, and Prince George’s County. We are looking for volunteers who want to help lead the National Capital Area’s over 900 professional planners!

Nominations are being accepted until Dec. 2. For a description of available roles, please see Board Position Descriptions. Members elected this year will serve from January 2025 through December 2026. Terms are two years in duration and require attendance at monthly board meetings and participation in chapter activities.

Nomination and self-nomination letters must be submitted via email and should be no more than two (2) pages and must contain the following:

  • Full Name
  • APA ID Number
  • APA and NCAC membership status
  • AICP Status
  • Position Statement
  • Professional Background
  • Professional Experience
  • APA Experience
  • Education

Nominations and self-nominations can be submitted to Scott Rowe, AICP, President, at chapterpresident@ncac-apa.org no later than Monday, December 2. Online elections will be held in early to mid-December.

To best reflect the Chapter’s membership and the region we serve, we highly encourage minorities, women, and other persons underrepresented in the planning field to apply for Board positions. Board Qualifications

All Board members must be Chapter members during their term of office. Officers must have been APA members for at least the two years immediately prior to their service on the Board. Directors must have been APA members for at least a full year immediately prior to their service on the Board. The Vice President for Professional Development and Vice President for Professional Development-Elect must also be AICP members. Chapter-Only Members may participate and be elected as an at-Large Director of the Board.

Board Responsibilities

The 22-member board is responsible for organizing NCAC-sponsored events. Past events included local planning conferences, panel discussions, award ceremonies, social events, volunteer opportunities, and AICP-related classes. The board also promotes planning in the community and encourages professional development within the industry.

Board members serve for two years, attend monthly board meetings to conduct the business of the Chapter, lead and participate in Committees, facilitate events, and participate in various chapter activities.
